Mimi Tompkins

MSW Intern

Mimi Tompkins is a clinical social work graduate trainee, currently pursuing a Master's degree in Social Work at New York University. She provides therapy to adults, adolescents, and couples at Rose Hill, where she is dedicated to welcoming clients from diverse backgrounds, identities, and ages. Mimi creates a safe, supportive environment for individuals with unique life experiences, helping them explore their personal journeys and navigate life's challenges.

In her therapeutic approach, Mimi works psychodynamically, delving into the complexities of her clients' internal lives and examining the tension between conscious and unconscious impulses that often underlie symptoms. She listens attentively and without judgment, fostering an atmosphere of curiosity, self-exploration, and insight. Her work encourages clients to be curious about themselves, helping them recognize their inherent adaptability, seek joy and meaning, and develop resilience in the face of difficult feelings or experiences.

Mimi has a special interest in areas such as stress, intersectional identities, life transitions, trauma, relationship issues, and family dynamics. Her practice is further enriched by her diverse background as both an artist and scholar. Before pursuing her training in psychotherapy, Mimi worked as a professional ballet dancer, an experience that informs her clinical work today by deepening her understanding of the mind-body connection and the importance of discipline, expression, and resilience. Additionally, she holds a B.A. from Columbia University in English and Comparative Literature, which enhances her appreciation for the narratives that shape her clients' lives.

Prior to her current training, Mimi worked at Cerula Care, a Behavioral Health Collaborative care program for individuals with cancer. This experience contributed to her sensitivity in working with individuals facing serious health challenges, further strengthening her compassionate and holistic approach to care.
