Louis Levy, LMSW
Psychotherapist
I am a psychotherapist working with adolescents, adults, and groups. I have a particular interest in working with people who are experiencing interpersonal and intrapsychic difficulties, coping with trauma, navigating issues of gender and sexuality, coming-of-age, and life transitions. I also work with people who are struggling with substance use, mania, depression, and anxiety. I welcome clients for whom coming to therapy may be challenging and appreciate the bravery it takes to engage in the therapeutic process.
My background in psychodynamic theory, sociology, and social movement work inform my belief that the exploration of the individual is inseparable from the political and social worlds we inhabit. In practice, this looks like examining the here-and-now while paying close attention to past experiences and issues of race, class, gender, and sexuality. This exploration allows for a greater understanding of the self and opens up new possibilities. I strive to create a therapeutic space that allows for curiosity, self-expression, humor, and creativity.
I hold a B.A. in American Studies - Sociology from Reed College and a Master’s in Social Work from Smith College School for Social Work.
